The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN: UNESCO Creative Cities Network) was established in 2004 by UNESCO.
It aims to promote the development of local creative industries and sustainable development through international collaboration among the creative cities.
UCCN has seven creative fields; Literature, Film, Music, Craft & Folk Art, Design, Media Art, and Gastronomy Each creative city participates the network to exchange knowledge and experiences. 350 cities are designated as the cities of UCCN worldwide, and 53 cities are designated in the field of Literature. (As of October, 2023)
On October 31 in2023, Okayama City was designated as the first City of Literature in Japan by UNESCO.
