Upper Village Ltd.

“Ritta,” the yellow child monster

Animation “Ritta” for learning about the SDGs with children in a fun way

Upper Village Ltd., a branding design company in Okayama City has produced an animation for babies called “Ritta,” a story about the SDGs available on YouTube.

This project was initiated as part of our social contribution activities in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the Upper Village. The main character is Ritta, a yellow child monster. The name comes from the word “altruism,” which expresses compassion.

With almost wordless expression through music and movement, this animation can be enjoyed by infants and young children as well as people around the world. These unique characteristics of digital content tell a story about the 17 SDGs goals.

At the “Okayama SDGs Fair 2024: Learning with Children about Our Future,” we collaborated with Okayama City and the Okayama Literature Award Steering Committee to exhibit as friends who work together to “create a town rich in spirit through literature.

Okayama Prefectural Book NetworkIt is a network of several publishing companies in Okayama Prefecture. It promotes the spread of local production for local consumption of books by holding book fairs at bookstores for books published in the region.

The Kikigakijin Association

The journal “Listen, Write "

The association was inaugurated in 2011. Kigakaki means Listen to Write. It is a collaborative process the narrator and listener engage in dialogue to “put the narrator's life and thoughts into writing in the spoken language. It is an initiative to record the lives of each person living in that era as history.
The association make people master the techniques and records the community through interviews. The journal “Listen and Write” is published once a year.

Kibiji Literature Museum

A privately owned and operated literary museum established in 1986 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Chugoku Bank, a regional bank headquartered in Okayama City.The museum collects and exhibits books and materials written by novelists, poets, haiku poets, and authors associated with Kibiji (Old name of Okayama) during and after the Meiji period (1868-1912). The museum tries to pass these valuable cultural assets to the next generation.
Some spaces are opened for lectures, concerts, art exhibitions, recitations and mini-theaters etc.

Book Making is Community Building Kibito Publishing

Kibito Publishing Co. was eEstablished in 1995. With the slogan “Making books are Building community,” Kibito Publishing is rooted in local minds and it aims to create books explore the local community.
There are many books that are published only in Okayama, Kibito Publishing keeps publishing each book with this local minds.

In addition to protecting precious natural and cultural assets, the Foundation strive to create a unique local culture rooted in tradition, and work to make our hometown Okayama a relaxing place to live.
In addition to honoring Uchida Hyakken, a famous writer born in Okayama, the Foundationwe operate the “Uchida Hyakken Literary Award” established to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth and invite “literary works related to Okayama” from all over the country.

Setouchi Book Cruise plans and operates various events to expand ways to enjoy and exchange through books.

Zenta and Sanpei Society

The “Zenta and Sampei Society” (Tsubota Joji Literature Study Group) has been active since 1985 to read and appreciate the works of Tsubota Joji, a great local writer and honorary citizen of Okayama City, and to nurture the rich world of children in “Zenta and Sampei” in the hearts of children. The organization has been active since 1985.

The Society ha been creating opportunities to read each other's works (fairy tales, novels, folktales, essays, etc.), as well as researching works, holding exhibitions, and distributing materials to elementary schools, nursery schools, and kindergartens.

Tsubojo World Explorer / Notre Dame Seishin University

Volunteer students of Japanese Language and Literature at Notre Dame Seishin Women's University are working to energize the local community through activities to promote the works of Tsubota Joji.
Note: Tsubo-jo” is the nickname of Joji Tsubota, a children's literature author from Okayama City.

Association to Honor Joji Tsubota

In order to honor the achievements of Joji Tsubota, a children's literature writer from Okayama City, the Association promotes the literary value of his works.The association holds reading sessions of Joji’ works, reads his works to children and introduces Joji's life in Okayama and the areas and places.

Headquartered in Okayama City, Teitsu operates a re-use business buying and selling books, games, Tradingcards, hobbies, CDs, DVDs and other items. It has opened more than 120 stores nationwide.

The concept of the store is “to provide inexpensive entertainment that can be enjoyed by the whole family,” and the corporation aims to create a store with depth where customers can enjoy shopping for a variety of products and enjoy the expansion of the time axis from the latest to the oldest titles.

In recent years, the company has been focusing on regional development and SDGs activities, and is currently working on the “Furuichi Regional Development Activity (Creating Shared Values)” to become a company that is needed by the local community.
