Yoko Ogawa visited Okayama City Hall

On July 26 2024, Yoko Ogawa, a writer born in Okayama City visited Okayama City Hall. She has written numerous works including “The Memory Police”, “The Diving Pool” and “The Housekeeper and the Professor.”

The Mayor of Okayama City spoke about the Joji Tsubota Literary Award which has continued for 40 years and Okayama City was recognized as a “UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of Literature” in October 2023. He also mentioned ““Okayama City will further promote initiatives related to history and literature in the future.”

When Yoko was asked about creation of her works, She said “There are people who do not fit well into society, but literature can scoop out the attractive ones of these people.”

We will look for opportunities to work with Yoko Ogawa continuously.
