A workshop “Delivering Picture Books to Children in Asia”

“Delivering Picture Books to Children in Asia” workshop was held at the multi-purpose hall of the Okayama Prefectural Library on Sunday July 7 2024. More than 150 elementary and junior high school students and their parents participated in the workshop.

The Shanti Volunteer Association, Global NGO, helped to organise this workshop to improve the quality of education. The Shanti Volunteer Association is engaged in the publication of books, showing picture books, development of local human resources, construction and maintenance of libraries and education-related projects in Asian countries.

In this workshop, Ms. Yoshida of the Shanti Volunteer Association explained about the situation of refugee camps and other areas where there are not enough picture books for children. After the explanation of how to make picture books, participants cut and pasted stickers in the local language on the Japanese picture book. After they completed the picture books, children wrote their names in the local language. The books will be delivered to children far away from Okayama through the  Association.

The children and parents seemed to think of the areas the books were going to be delivered.
