“Let's Deliver Picture Books to Children in Asia!” Workshop

The “Delivering Picture Books to Children in Asia!” Workshop was held at the multi-purpose hall of the Okayama Prefectural Library on Saturday, August 19 2023.
About 160 students and their parents participated in the workshop.

The Shanti Volunteer Association cooperated for the event to create a book culture and improve the quality of education in areas in difficult situation. Shanti Volunteer Association is engaged in the publication of books and picture story shows, local human resource development, construction and maintenance of libraries.

Ms. Yoshida of the Shanti Volunteer Association explained about the situation in refugee camps and other areas where there are not enough picture books, and he explained how to make picture books. Participants cut and pasted stickers in the local language on the Japanese picture book, and finally wrote their names in the local language. The books will be delivered to the local community through the Shanti Volunteer Association.

The participants asked questions about the refugee camps and local food habits, showing their interests in the activities to deliver the picture books.

Okayama City would like to continue such international contribution through literature and create opportunities for people to know about connections between the world and Okayama. This workshop can be a chance to know what they can do for others.
