Kiyoshi Shigematsu is a writer from Okayama. He won the 14th Joji Tsubota Literary Award and the 124th Naoki Prize in 2001.
The special exhibition (September 10th to November 26th, 2023) featured a detailed chronological record inscribed by Mr. Shigematsu himself, showing how he became a writer. He suddenly became a student editorial staff member of “Waseda Bungaku” during his college days. While most of his published works were on display, the exhibition introduced columns and essays written in the past . A visitor commented that they felt as if they were talking to Shigematsu himself as they read through them.
During the special exhibition period, Mr. Shigematsu's lecture was held on October 1. After the lecture of Mr. Shigematsu, a roundtable discussion was held with participation students from high schools and universities in Okayama. Students expressed their impressions of Shigematsu's works and asked questions for him during the discussion.
The reading of Shigematsu's work was also very successful on November 3rd. The audience was able to experience the wonder of Shigematsu's works through listening.
