Okayama Arts Festival

Okayama Arts Festival started in 1963. This Festival is Okayama City's most traditional cultural arts festival. The Festival includes various genres such as music, film, dance, theater, fine arts, lifestyle culture and literature. Cultural organisations and citizens' groups present their performances. It is held for 3 months annually. The average number of visitors exceeds 30,000. (from 2019 to 2022)

Soseki Forum

The Soseki Forum is held in the Saidaiji area in Okayama City. The area was a place where the great writer Soseki Natsume stayed in. The Forum consists of various programmes to enjoy learning about Soseki and his literature. There are performances of music, calligraphy and food related to the writer.

3.11 Readings, Music

Since the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, a reading group of citizens “Ohanashi no WAOpen in a new window” has held an annual reading programme on March 11. They featur literary works related to the disasters to keep the memory of the history.

Interaction with the elderly by students through literature

University students created picture-story shows and puppet shows of literary works and performed them for the elderly residents in Okayama City. The elderly residents exchanged with students through the performances . After the performances, all the participants talked about the impressions of literature.
